.The Illinois State Library Literacy Office awarded37 Penny Severns Family Literacy grants to libraries totaling more than $165,000 for summer 2011. Theprogram promotes learning during the summer months when parents and children can learn to gether through variety of educational activities. In fiscal year 2011, projects served 1,959 adults and3,818 children. Aurora Public Library Parents and children were introduced to the six early literacy skills of the Every Child Ready toRead program with books, rhymes and music. Trips were taken to SciTech Hands-On Museumand Blackberry Farm's Pioneer Village. Parent and Child Together (PACT) times included games withalphabet beach balls and creating an animal collage. Children matched the animals in the collagewith the name of the animal's beginning letter sound using magnetic letters.
