.Schools, literacy programs and libraries throughout the state celebrated Family Reading Night in November by holding variety of innovative events to encourage families to read together. Family Reading Night, sponsored by Secretary of State Jesse White, is held annually on the third Thursday in November. Following are highlights from this past year's events: Southeastern Illinois College The literacy program sponsored pajama parties at the Shawneetown, Rosiclare and Harrisburg public libraries, where children wore their pajamas and brought their favorite stuffed animals. Raggedy Ann and others read bedtime stories and door prizes were given to the families. The Head Start program brought their families as well and did finger play. An event also was held at the Norris City Library with "Puppy Tales" theme, featuring Clifford the Big Red Dog. They made craft project of big red floppy dog-ears, baked cookies in the shape of dog bones, and read Clifford stories. Each child received Cliffo
