- Direct appeal from the circuit court of Cook County. JUSTICE FREEMAN delivered the judgment of the court, with opinion. Chief Justice Fitzgerald and Justices Thomas, Garman, Karmeier, and Burke concurred in the judgment and opinion. Justice Kilbride dissented, with opinion. At noon on September 23, 2000, women and children were in an apartment at 1904 N. Kedzie Ave. in Chicago when this defendant entered and started shooting at them.
