.IRP Registration Illinois has been member of the International Registration Plan (IRP) since1977. Since then, the Office of the Secretary of State has worked to ensure that the program operates effectively for those who base their registrations inthis state. In Illinois, one plate and one cab card is issued to each vehicle registered.Registration fees are then apportioned among IRP member jurisdictions according to the percentage of total fleet miles generated in that jurisdiction. This booklet provides IRP applicants instructions on how to accurately applyfor their registrations. Renewal applicants should also use the booklet as guide to make sure current and new changes to the IRP are being observed. This booklet also listsother regulatory agencies that applicants may need to contact. Please refer to the appropriate instructions. IRP plates are only sold at the Springfield facility.
