She began working for the Lincoln LegalPapers in the summer of 1990 as volunteer, whileshe was graduate student in public history at Sangamon State University (nowthe University of Illinois at Springfield). That fall, she held an internship with the project, whichresulted in the completion of her Master's project about two Lincoln cases involving county courthouserelocations. After finishing her Master's degree, she cameto work full time with the project in the spring of 1991, when the search for Lincoln cases wasunderway in county courthouses across the state.
