App. 3d 872. JUSTICE KILBRIDE delivered the judgment of the court, with opinion. Chief Justice Thomas and Justices Freeman, Fitzgerald, Garman, Karmeier, and Burke concurred in the judgment and opinion. In 1990, 64-year-old woman was stabbed with knife in the Chicago flower shop on West Roscoe where she worked, and money was taken from the cash register. The victim had been raped and died in few days. In the circuit court of Cook County, this defendant pled guilty to first degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and armed robbery. For the homicide, he was sentenced to natural life in prison. Not satisfied with the results of his sentencing challenges brought by way of motion to reconsider, direct appeal, and postconviction petition, O'Connell filed motion under section 116-3 of the Code
