The plaintiff in this Winnebago County case suffered an accident involving his wrist in January of 1999. In May of that year, he had surgery that resulted in totally disabling infection. He had policy for total disability coverage with the Principal Life Insurance Company, the defendant here. That policy provided lifetime benefits for disability resulting from "injury," but limited coverage for "sickness" to five years.
