Chief Justice Thomas and Justices Freeman, Fitzgerald, Kilbride, Garman, and Karmeier concurred in the judgment and opinion. In June of 2002, three Peoria County motorcycle riders were thrown from their vehicles when an oncoming car driven by this defendant veered across the center line and into their lane at the intersection of Maher and Frye Roads. Two riders were seriously injured. The driver who had been proceeding in front of defendant later testified that he noticed her speeding up behind him, and he pulled over just prior to the accident.
