In Kankakee County near Herscher, just north of Iroquois County, taxpayer Natural Gas Pipeline Company owns acres of land on which it operates compressor station. Beneath this land are two natural reservoirs that are used for gas storage. The total area of the reservoirs extends beyond the land owned by the taxpayer, and the reservoirs lie beneath total of 15,600 surrounding surface acres of land owned by others.
