Description
This issue of the newsletter of the Illinois Learn And Serve America Program includes items on the 12th annual conference on an expanded service-learning program for Illinois with an emphasis on highquality training and technical assistance. Lt. Governor Quinn reached an intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for Illinois Learn and Serve America program. Learn and Serve America grants were awarded over $550,000 to 44 school districts and regional programs in an effort to promote student involvement in both the classroom and their community.

More than students, educators, and community leaders committed to fostering an ethic of civic responsibility attended the all-day conference in SpringO/eld, Illinois. Terry Pickeral, the Director of the National Center for Learning and Citizenship, served as the keynote speaker for the conference.
