.At the Sustainable University Symposium, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn introduced the Illinois Sustainable University Compact, which outlines twelve environmental goals university and community colleges may adopt on their campuses. To date, three schools have joined: Robert Morris College, Western Illinois University, and Columbia College Chicago. The Illinois Sustainable University Compact includes objectives such as purchasing renewable energy, implementing green building practices, developing sustainable transportation options, improving water conservation, and incorporating sustainable dining practices in school cafeterias. Lt. Governor Quinn has invited institutions of higher education across the state to identify and accomplish attainable environmental goals by 2010. The Illinois Green Government Coordinating Council hopes to see every university and community college in the state take steps to create more environmentally responsible campuses for learning.
