.Welcome to the Walk Across Illinois School Fitness Program! Your child's classroom is participating in the Walk Across Illinois School Fitness Program. This new initiative is partnership between Lt. Governor Pat Quinn, the Stakeholders Collaboration to Improve Student Health, and the Chicago Public Schools. Physical education teachers in your child's school are using special 20-week physical education curriculum that incorporates health and Illinois history lessons. The program engages students in fun fitness activities with the goal of each child walking at least miles by the end of the weeks. Your Role healthy lifestyle starts at home. Children look to their parents or guardians to be role models in all aspects of their lives. With this in mind, the Walk Across Illinois School Fitness Program has incorporated "homework miles" into its physical fitness regimen. On average, students should earn six "homework" miles per week.
