.Illinois Documents Electronic Documents Initiative (EDI) The Electronic Documents Initiative (www.iledi.org) is now open to the public. Based on information provided in agency created metadata, EDI offers the ability to browse documents by subject, publisher (issuing agency), and title. Users can search by keywords using Web site search. Documents in the EDI Depository are available through all web-based search engines. Agencies will submit electronic copies of all public documents, both those distributed in tangible format like print or CD and those 'born' digital. The Illinois State Library will maintain the servers and keep the documents readable. If agencies remove access to older documents from their Web sites, the public and the agency will still be able to access those documents via the depository. The Illinois State Library's new metadata generator, which requires login and password, provides an easy 'fill-in the blank' format for creating the required metadata and submitting
