LITTLE EXPANSION, BUT LITTLE PROFIT AS WELL FOR PORK PRODUCERS by Chris Hurt The nation's breeding herd continues to exhibit a small expansion. However, the number of pigs per litter and marketing weights have each been growing at a rate of about 0.75 percent per year. This means that even small increases in farrowings can result in a 2 to 3 percent increase in pork production as is expected in the coming 12 months.
Report of the Illinois Climate Change Advisory Group
The Illinois Climate Change Advisory Group was created by Executive Order on October 5, 2006. The group was chaired by Doug Scott, Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Other members represent local government, labor unions, public transit, scientists, environmental groups, consumer groups, faith-based groups. Industries represented include agriculture, utilities, power generators, auto manufacturing, farm and construction equipment, oil, insurance, and waste management. The group was charged with recommending state-level strategies to meet greenhouse gas reduction goals: 1990 levels by 2020; 60 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.
